Well, not quite yet. We're waiting at gate 25 in LAX for our flight. We were up all night stealthily moving stuff out to the curb, packing things, fighting, trying to avoid mental breakdown.
In the end, we had to give up. We left a TON of stuff at the apartment, some of it quite valuable. That Ikea TV stand, a 13" TV, a couple DVD players, a mess of CDs...
Really, I vastly underestimated both the amount of *stuff* we had and how long it would take to sell/get rid of it all.
In other news, this livejournal is of now officially dead. I'm going forward under a new LJ handle. Y'all should know or easily guess what that new handle is. See you on the other side. |

Flossie upped to Cat 3, heads for isles Hurricane Flossie had 115 mph maximum sustained winds and 132 mph gusts early this morning Star-Bulletin staff / cityeditors@starbulletin.com
Forecasters warn Hawaii residents to be prepared for what is expected to be the first hurricane to enter the Central Pacific region this season.
While the storm is supposed to weaken and pass south of the islands, forecasters say it makes sense to be ready if Hurricane Flossie takes a different tack. "Anybody in the Hawaiian Islands should be watching this thing," said Sam Houston, lead forecaster for the Central Pacific Hurricane Center.
Hurricane Flossie was moving west at 13 mph yesterday about 1,400 miles east-southeast of Hilo. Early today it was expected to pass 140 W latitude, the boundary for the Central Pacific Hurricane Center's region. Last month, Hurricane Cosme became a tropical depression before crossing into the Central Pacific... |

I'm hoping to get a positive response from one of my friends in L.A. before I post this to the LA livejournal community, and before I post to Craigslist.
I have a 30-gallon fish tank with lighted lid, plants, filter, air pump, gravel, and plants, which is home to two goldfish, an algae eater, two zippy fish (I don't know what they're called ciclids or something, maybe. They're like guppies.), and a dwarf African frog.
 Girl not included in offer.
Does anyone want to take over caring for my fish? I'll give it all to you for nothing. One of the goldfish is big, probably about six inches long, and is about two or three years old. I'd rather give it to someone I know, than take my chances with a stranger who may flush the fish down the toilet and use the tank to keep his pet iguana or something. |

Brian Wilson originally intended to sing lead vocal on 'God Only Knows' but in the end he sacrificed the lead vocal to his brother Carl: "Well, I thought I was gonna do it. As the song progressed, I said, 'Hey, I feel kind of natural doing this.' But when we completed creating the song, I said my brother Carl will probably be able to impart the message better than I could, so I sacrificed that one. But he had a good time singing it."

I've been busting my ass getting my belongings on eBay, many of them selling for 99 cents or not selling at all, and it occurred to me, if I just got one day of work as a union extra on a TV show or movie, I could just throw away or donate a lot my stuff and end up with more money.
Bid on my things anyway:

Pit Bull Rapes 2-Year-Old
Authorities say the toddler required surgery after being attacked by the dog.
Buffalo, NY -- A disturbing and violent attack leaves a toddler in serious condition at Women and Children's Hospital. Neighbors heard a mother screaming that her child was being raped.
Lockport Police received a 911 call from a frantic City of Lockport mother Sunday afternoon.
The mother told Lockport Police that she left her two-year-old unattended for a short time and after hearing the baby scream, she ran to see what was wrong.
When she got in the room, she told Lockport Police the dog had sodomized the toddler. The mother screamed, scaring the dog and it ran out of the house.
One neighbor told 2 On Your Side, she heard the mother screaming "the dog is raping my baby." Neighbors ran to help, but only one man was able to get the dog and child apart.
Anastacio Castillo says "I tried to get the dog away from the baby, the dog was already inside the baby." When the baby was finally free, he was visibly sick.
The baby was rushed to Women and Children's Hospital where the toddler underwent reconstructive surgery.
The dog is being held at the Niagara County SPCA for evaluation. An animal behavior specialist is scheduled to evaluate the Pit Bull.
The Niagara County District Attorney's office is assisting Lockport Police with the investigation.
Miranda Workman, behavior specialist at Purrfect Paws in Amherst says, "Most likely this is not a learned behavior. Dogs intact, not spayed or neutered have a higher hormonal drive."
She urges parents to never, ever leave their children alone with a dog.

Monday morning, Carolyn and I drove out to the Kings Canyon / Sequoia National Park to see Giant Redwoods.
Carolyn's in the bottom right corner of this photo.
We'd planned to camp there overnight, but it had gotten too dark by the time we'd seen everything we wanted to see, so I drove us home and it ended up being a day trip. A 20-hour day trip from beginning to end.

Item: My Subpoena A few weeks ago, late at night, I was sitting in my room when I heard a loud crash outside my window. I went out to investigate, and saw that someone had crashed his car right in front of my apartment. The Acura was parked perpendicular to the street, right front tire bent 90 degrees horizontally. Amazingly, the only damage I saw was the Acura and one parked car, even though the Acura was totally blocking the street between rows of parked cars on either side.
I didn't hear anyone, so I walked forward and asked the driver if he was okay. No one else was in the car. The side airbag had deployed, but the front airbag hadn't.
The driver mumbled that he was okay and got out of the car. He was incoherent and confused, and could barely stand upright. By now a couple other people had wandered out of their homes to gawk, but considering the noise, I was amazed it was just the three of us. One woman across the street was checking on her car, which she said had suffered a scrape on the side mirror. The other witness said the Acura's axle was busted, but soon lost interest and went back home.
For whatever reason, I stuck around and tried to help the guy get his bearings, but he was just not coming around. I advised him to leave a note for the car he had damaged. He scribbled something and gave it to me, thinking it was my car...or something. I looked at what he'd written and it was pathetically illegible.
Carolyn called me from upstairs to ask what was going on and then called the police. I told the driver he should call a roommate or friend or something, because he was in a lot of trouble. He barely responded. The police came, took my name, address, and phone number and I got the "You're free to go," bit.
Then last week I got subpoenaed.
(Funny side bit: When we were on our way to Magic Mountain, I had the reply envelope for the subpoena with me to mail. Carolyn was putting on her sunscreen and picked up the subpoena with her greasy hand. She said, "I got lotion on your subpoena," then hearing herself, broke into riotous laughter.)
I went to court and saw the guy again, sober obviously, wearing a suit. I didn't say anything to him, and he didn't approach me. I don't know if he even remembered me at all.
The prosecuting attorney took me outside the court room and asked me to tell him what I saw. I told him pretty much everything above. He asked me if I'd gone to college, and I said I had. So you know what drunk people act like, you've seen people drunk, he said. (Funny way to approach this question!) He said if I'm called to witness, the defense attorney would ask me how I knew if he was as drunk as I said I thought he was, and yadda-yadda-yadda.
But mostly, just my presence would be sufficient to get them to plead, because they can't just make stuff up like his friend was driving and went to get help when the cops came, etc.
So the guy did plead no contest, but the judge found him guilty anyway. I found out that this was his second conviction in two years for DUI, and that his blood alcohol at time of arrest was 0.26% (Legal limit is 0.08%!). He had violated probation, and was sentenced to 45 days in county jail and 180 days of ankle bracelet custody.
Yep, just like Paris Hilton.
